Child Care Aware® of America Statement On The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Markup
WASHINGTON, DC — In response to the child care funding increase passed yesterday by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Child Care Aware® of America (CCAoA) Executive Director Dr. Lynette M. Fraga released the following statement:
“Yesterday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education took a critical step in addressing the underfunded child care infrastructure in the United States by proposing a $2.4 billion increase for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) as well as an increase of $1.5 billion for Head Start and $100 million for Preschool Development Grants for Fiscal Year 2020. While the funding is short of the $5 billion requested by CCAoA for CCDBG, the organization is grateful to the members of this panel for this increase as it demonstrates that members are prioritizing the needs of children and families. CCAoA looks forward to seeing this increase pass in the full House Appropriations Committee next week and in the Senate Appropriations process later this year. Vulnerable families are struggling to access affordable child care, and are counting on the House and the Senate to increase funding for CCDBG.”
